There has been a lot of chatter recently about AI and sharing photos online. Since I started my business over 18 years ago, I have always allowed clients to choose whether or not their images could be shared online on social media, my blog, and/or my website. I have always had a model release separate from the portrait agreement (contract) so that people realized exactly what they were signing and it wasn’t hidden in the contract somewhere. In the past year or so, about half of the clients I have served have asked for privacy. One of their main concerns is AI and having their children’s faces online. Nothing has changed on my end. I continue to allow clients to make that decision for themselves. While I ALWAYS appreciate clients who allow me to show their gorgeous images which help other new clients find me, I understand the many reasons why other families opt for privacy.
When it comes to AI in my editing and retouching, I rarely use it unless necessary. In fact, some of the commercial clients that I serve require that AI is NOT used in the processing of their images. While there are several new stand alone AI processing programs that can retouch an entire session in 10 minutes, I still continue to use Lightroom and Photoshop and handle all clients images myself they way I always have. I guess this old dog isn’t learning any new tricks!
